A Foundation of Excellence: Education and Training

Dr. Ahmad's journey to becoming the leading eyelid surgeon he is now didn’t happen overnight. It began with a strong foundation in academics and medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with High Distinction from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He then continued his studies at the prestigious University of Michigan Medical School, graduating with his Doctorate of Medicine in 1994.
Following medical school, Dr. Ahmad completed a transitional year at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, before embarking on his residency in ophthalmology at the renowned W.K. Kellogg Eye Center with Dr. Paul Lichter, and his oculofacial mentors, Dr. Bart Frueh, Dr. Christy Nelson and Dr. Victor Elner. It was during his residency that he discovered his passion for the intricate and delicate procedures involved in eyelid surgery.
Driven to further specialize in this field, Dr. Ahmad pursued a fellowship in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery at the W.K. Kellogg Eye Center. This intensive training honed his skills in both cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery, equipping him with the expertise to address a wide range of eyelid concerns, from aesthetic enhancements to complex functional issues.
His training at the Kellogg Eye Center was incredible and to this day, his level of detailed examination and thoughtfulness stems from the tutelage of his mentors. The most important lesson he learned at Kellogg is that sometimes the best surgery an oculofacial surgeon can do is no surgery at all.
A Leader in Research and Education
Throughout his career, Dr. Ahmad has remained at the forefront of his field, actively participating in numerous research studies related to eyelid surgery. His dedication to research ensures that his patients benefit from the latest advancements and the safest, most effective treatments available.
Dr. Ahmad is passionate about educating fellow surgeons, medical professionals, and the future generation of physicians. In the past, he was the Director of Oculoplastics at two major Chicagoland medical centers: Loyola Medical Center (6 years) and the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He has lectured nationally and internationally on cosmetic eyelid surgery and non-invasive cosmetic treatments of the eyelid area.
Dr. Ahmad's dedication to education stems from his own mentors. During his tenure at the University of Illinois, Dr. Allen Putterman was, and still is, a significant cosmetic mentor to him. Dr. Putterman's fellow Steve Fagien, a world-renowned cosmetic eyelid surgeon, has also mentored Dr. Ahmad in both surgery and non-invasive cosmetic treatments in the eye area.

A Compassionate Approach to Patient Care
Dr. Ahmad's commitment to his patients extends beyond his exceptional surgical skills. He believes in building trusting relationships with each patient, taking the time to listen to their concerns, answer their questions, and develop a personalized surgical plan that meets their individual needs and goals. He understands that choosing eyelid surgery is a significant decision, and he strives to create a supportive and comfortable environment for every patient.

More Than a Surgeon
When he's not in the operating room or teaching, Dr. Ahmad works hard to keep physically fit. He is an avid University of Michigan football fan and has had the pleasure of seeing the Wolverines win the 2023 Rose Bowl and National Championship. Dr. A was raised in a suburb of Detroit and has been a Lions fan since he arrived in Michigan in 1973. Although being a Lions fan has been difficult, he considers their journey much like his own: you have to try to get better every single day.
Dr. Ahmad loves Chicago, especially the incredible restaurant scene in the West Loop. He and his dog Charllie love walking on the river walk, no matter the season. Charlie is a big Chicago Bears fan (except when they play the Detroit Lions!).
